The Glasgow restaurants will be the first in the event’s five year history to showcase the quality of the West of Scotland dining scene, and will be showcasing their dishes to over 25,000 foodies expected to flock to The Meadows in the capital from 1-3 July.
Fresh from their recent Reader’s Choice award win at The List Eating and Drinking Guide Awards 2011, Seumas MacInnes and his team at Café Gandolfi will join the award-winning Cail Bruich and Two Fat Ladies, two of Glasgow’s most celebrated restaurant brands, at this year’s event.
The Glasgow culinary favourites form a stellar line up of restaurants, representing the very best of Scottish culinary talent including; Chez Rouz, Cucina at Hotel Missoni, First Coast, Mark Greenaway at Hawke & Hunter, Ondine, Plumed Horse, Tigerlily, Vincaffé and Wedgwood.
Foodie fans will have the chance to enjoy cooking demonstrations at the Taste Theatre and sample the best Scottish food and drink from over 100 artisan producers. Visitors can also brush up on their own culinary skills with hands-on AEG Perfekt Cooking Classes with Cook School by Martin Wishart, and sessions at the Waitrose Cookery School, where they can create stunning dishes with the freshest, local and seasonal ingredients.
Ryan James, proprietor of the Two Fat Ladies restaurants and Glasgow Restaurant Association chairman commented: “We are really excited to be on board with Taste of Edinburgh this year. The Glasgow restaurant scene is doing incredibly well and we have a lot to offer. Taste will be a great opportunity to showcase this in Edinburgh, bring some of the garrulous Glasgow charm to the event and also share ideas and knowledge with some of the other successful Scottish chefs taking part.
“We are already talking to our suppliers to make sure we have the very best, fresh, local produce to cook with over the weekend and fingers crossed for lovely summer weather. Nothing tastes better than freshly caught seafood and a glass of champagne in the sunshine”
Taste Festivals Managing Director, Justin Clarke says: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome such iconic Glasgow restaurants on board with Taste of Edinburgh this year. One of the great things about the festival is the variety of different restaurants, chefs and types of cuisine on offer – our visitors can experience food from some of Scotland’s finest local producers and artisan suppliers while our chefs can share knowledge and expertise. Café Gandolfi, Cail Bruich and Two Fat Ladies will definitely bring an exciting new dimension to this year’s line up.”
Taste of Edinburgh was launched in 2007 and over the past five years, the festival has developed a recipe for success attracting a host of household names including Jean-Christophe Novelli, High-Fearnley-Whittingstall, Tom Kitchin, Rachel Allen, Tristan Welch, Giorgio Locatelli, Nick Nairn, Aldo Zilli, Lady Claire Macdonald and Alan Murchison.
